The client was a leading private equity backed international food business with multiple business units and a diverse portfolio of food brands. For ten years, Simply Supply Chain has worked as the partner of choice for its logistics team, supporting them through multiple acquisitions and divestments and the relocation of their distribution centre.

The client required a strategic review of their enlarged distribution portfolio to understand how they could best combine their business units to reduce cost and improve service.

 

Approach

The client required capacity to provide value add logistics, scope for future business growth and a solution that incorporated the geographical spread of the manufacturing sites and customer delivery points.

  • Evaluated single and multiple site distribution centres to understand how the product portfolio could best be stored and distributed across the network. Concluded that multi distribution hubs were more cost effective and responsive to customer demand.
  • Identifed a footprint and cost base to support their future distribution strategy, whilst simultaneously revising the network to improve service levels and reduce cost.
  • Ran a full tender process for the revised network requirement, securing partners who could deliver improved levels of service and offer consolidation opportunities. We then led a seamless implementation, facilitating a low-risk transition and no impact to customer service levels.
